Our post was named in honor of William Brian Lutz who was born in Saline Township, the second child of John and Ada May Tucker Lutz. He attended Forbes School through the eighth grade and graduated from Saline High School, class of 1913, as salutatorian. He attended Eastern Michigan Teacher College in Ypsilanti and taught at Dell school 1914 -1916. In the fall of 1916 he entered Michigan Agricultural College, planning to become a chemical engineer.
Will enlisted in the service in May 1917. After a mouth of training in Lansing, he went to Grayling, Camp McArthurin Waco Texas, and Camp Merritt in New Jersey.
William sailed to France March sixth, 1918 with the 119th USA Field Artillery. He was killed action August 10,1918 near Fumo, France. His final resting-place is Oakwood Cemetery, Saline, Michigan. |
